From June to August in 2018, I interned with Intouch Solutions in Overland Park, KS. While there, I worked on the Shire Pharmaceuticals account on a portfolio of rare disease brands, including: Hyqvia, Gammagard, MyIgSource, Cuvitru, Firazyr, Takhzyro, Cinryze and more.
Working with pharmaceutical brands is unlike anything I had done before. My first few weeks consisted of heavily researching the brands and diseases, learning Pharma language and understanding how to use it in a meeting environment. Once I familiarized myself with how everyday life at the agency worked, I was able to start participating by taking and distributing meeting notes, managing website submissions to the FDA and participating in meetings for the launch of Takhzyro.
During this time, I also helped direct the development of our intern project, Forever Welcome. FW is a Facebook initiative
operated by Intouch that was born from a horrific hate crime. On February 22, 2017, a man named Srinivas, husband to Intouch database developer Sunayana Dumala, was shot and killed at bar simply because of his Indian heritage. The tragedy hit the Intouch community hard, and Intouch CEO Faruk Capan, an immigrant from Turkey, knew they had to do something about it. Thus, the summer interns were tasked with writing a creative brief, identifying an audience, making a social media schedule, collecting stories and creating content all to bring Sunayana's inspiring message to life-- we all belong here. We should all be Forever Welcome.
